Hospital Gown Bandit Stole SUV and Broke into Home

A Florida woman clothed in a hospital gown allegedly stole a vehicle and caused several accidents before breaking into a house.

24-year-old Darryell Washington resides in Fort Myers.

Early in the morning on March 5, Washington was reportedly at Lee Memorial Hospital, but the reason for her visit has not been disclosed at this time.

The woman allegedly left the medical center while wearing a hospital gown.

According to the police, an SUV parked near the hospital had been stolen, and the driver was operating the vehicle recklessly. Several vehicles were reportedly crashed into and damaged by the stolen automobile.

It was reported that just after 2:00 am, 911 received a call, but it got disconnected before the person who placed it could let the operator know why they needed assistance.

The Fort Myers Police Department learned about the call and sent officers to the location that they believed it came from.

More than one person at the scene told the police that a woman in a hospital gown was walking around and screaming. They said she also went on the porches of several homes on the block.

The police found the SUV that was reported stolen from the hospital, and it was abandoned and damaged.

Around the same time, someone from a home nearby called 911 to report a suspected break-in.

It was reported that the officers went to the address and found a woman in the home. They believed she got inside by breaking a window.

The suspect was identified as Washington, and she was taken to Lee Memorial Hospital for treatment. Washington was reportedly very uncooperative with the EMTs.

Upon her release from the medical facility, Washington was booked into the Lee County Jail without bond. She is expected to face charges of grand theft of a motor vehicle, battery on an EMT, and hit-and-run for leaving the scene of a crash involving property damage.
