Police Used Drone and Thermal Imaging to Catch Theft Suspect

Two Texas men are facing multiple charges after they were arrested in connection with thefts from hotel parking lots in several cities.

Early in the morning on January 4, the authorities received a report about a potential car theft that was happening at the Holiday Inn Express in Sweetwater. Officers from the Sweetwater Police Department went to the hotel to investigate. When they arrived, they found one of the suspects sitting in a car in the hotel parking lot. The officers reported that the man they believed was the second suspect fled the scene and entered the woods near the property.

Drones, thermal imaging equipment, and a K9 were used in the search for the man, and he was quickly found.

Both suspects were taken into custody and booked into the Nolan County Jail. The man who was caught in the woods is facing preliminary charges of felony unlawful carrying of a weapon with a felony conviction, felony unlawful possession of a firearm by a felon, felony possession of controlled substance in penalty group 1 / 1-B, greater than or equal to 1 gram but less than 4 grams, felony tampering with or fabricating physical evidence, felony theft of a firearm, felony fraudulent use/possession of identifying information, misdemeanor burglary of a motor vehicle, and misdemeanor evading arrest/detention. The suspect caught at the hotel is facing preliminary charges of felony unlawful carrying of a weapon with a felony conviction, felony unlawful possession of a firearm by a felon, felony theft of a firearm, felony fraudulent use/possession of identifying information, misdemeanor burglary of a motor vehicle, and a misdemeanor out of county charge.

Many items the police believe the men stole were recovered, and the investigation has not yet concluded. The authorities reported that they expect additional charges will be added.
