R&B Singer Arrested in Connection to Hotel Shooting

Anne Marie, an R&B singer from Chicago, was arrested after the police determined that she might be responsible for the shooting of her friend in a hotel room in Atlanta.

25-year-old Joann Marie Slater, whose professional name is “Anne Marie,” is a singer and songwriter on the Interscope Records label with a hit song on the Billboard Hot R&B Songs chart.

On December 1, Slater and a male friend were at the Intercontinental Buckhead Hotel in Atlanta.

After an incident occurred that led to the man being shot in the head, Slater called 911 for immediate emergency assistance.

In the released recording between Slater, the 911 operator, and the first responder on the line, Slater can be heard as she screamed out and begged for help. The woman was so despondent that it took nearly two minutes for the authorities to find out the exact location of the victim.

During the call, Slater told the operator that she had reached for a towel, and a gun was accidentally knocked from the table. In between shrieks and verbal expressions of love for the victim, Slater explained that the weapon discharged and a bullet hit the man in the head.

When the authorities arrived and saw the victim’s condition, they reported that they could see he had been shot in the head, but he was still conscious and able to have a limited conversation with them.

Slater, who explained that she and the man had been friends since their childhood, was frantically trying to find out if the victim was alright while the medical staff attended to him in the hotel room.

The victim was rushed to Grady Memorial Hospital.

The authorities opened an investigation into the situation, and on December 2, Slater was arrested. She was booked into the Fulton County Jail for suspicion of possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony and aggravated assault with a deadly weapon.

The victim was most recently reported as remaining in critical condition.
