The price of tobacco products has risen exponentially over the past decade, leaving many smokers on the hunt for deals and bargains. On the evening of July 27, employees at a convenience store in Coffee County were approached by a man who believed the business advertised that they were selling cigarettes for $6. When he learned they actually cost double, he reportedly became angry and argumentative. The man walked out, but he reentered the store and reportedly resumed yelling at the clerks. After leaving a second time, he allegedly walked back in with a weapon and threatened to shoot the pair of employees.
The authorities were notified, and deputies from the Coffee County Sheriff’s Office went to the location and spoke with the individuals present during the incident. They viewed footage from the surveillance camera, and they believed they were able to identify the suspect, who has an extensive history of prior criminal charges.
A search was enacted, and a few hours in, he was found and informed that he was being arrested as the suspected perpetrator of the incident at the convenience store. The man reportedly tried to flee and jumped into a nearby pond. Before law enforcement could get to him, they reported that he had a seizure.
The suspect was eventually taken into custody and booked into the Coffee County Pre-Trial Detention Center. He is facing preliminary charges of committing terroristic threats and acts and obstructing law enforcement officers. At the time this was written, he was being held without bond.
