Dad Facing Felony for Letting Toddler Sip Alcohol

The father of a 2-year-old was arrested after allegedly posting a video online that depicted his daughter sipping an alcoholic beverage.

27-year-old James Watts lives in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, and he has a 2-year-old daughter.

On December 13, Watts was spending time with his toddler. He was playing music and reportedly drinking from a bottle with a yellow label marked as a “Smirnoff Ice” brand wine cooler.

Watts reportedly began to record a video that he posted on Snapchat, and it allegedly showed him handing his daughter the bottle and allowing her to drink from it.

After taking a sip, the little girl reportedly handed the bottle back to her father. He allegedly tagged the video with a text comment stating, “My baby gone [sic] be drunk. She liking it a little too much,” according to news releases.

After he took a drink, Watts allegedly gave the young girl another swig from the bottle.

The following day the child’s mother, Brionca Peterson, notified the Oklahoma City Police Department about the incident. She told them that her daughter’s father had allowed the youngster to consume alcohol, and Peterson told them about the alleged recording.

When officers went to the home to investigate the claims, they reportedly viewed the Snapchat video. The authorities believed it showed probable cause to warrant taking Watts into custody for allegedly sharing the booze with the baby.

Watts, who was formerly convicted of a felony, was placed under arrest for the allegations. He was booked into the Oklahoma County Jail, and he is expected to face charges for felony child endangerment.

According to his booking information, Watts was also charged with additional infractions related to drugs and firearms.

He is being held on a $50,000 bond.
