A woman suspected of driving under the influence with a toddler in her car was arrested when she was pulled over after reportedly almost colliding with a tow truck.
At approximately 2:30 AM on August 5, a woman was driving a Mustang in Kent with a 3-year-old passenger. A tow truck was on the same side of the street, and a Kent Patrol Officer was following behind it with their lights turned on. It was reported that the woman nearly crashed into the truck, and the officer decided to initiate a traffic stop.
The woman pulled over without incident, and when the officer walked up to the window to talk to her, they noted that she did not put the car in park. When asked for her identification and proof of insurance, she still reportedly left the car in drive. A toddler was seen in the back of the vehicle, and they were allegedly sitting without a child’s car seat or safety belt on.
According to reports, she was unable to provide a valid license or insurance card, and the officer could smell alcohol on the woman’s breath. She was asked to consent to roadside sobriety tests. During the exercises, she allegedly had trouble understanding the tasks she was asked to do, and she performed poorly.
The 30-year-old woman was taken into custody, and she was booked on preliminary charges of DUI and reckless endangerment. She was also issued traffic citations for driving without a license, having no current car insurance, and failing to yield to a tow truck. Since there were no other passengers, the toddler was kept safe until they were picked up by a family member.
