A Connecticut man with several active arrest warrants is facing a slew of charges after allegedly attempting to drive away when he reportedly crashed into a vehicle on the Interstate while driving under the influence of alcohol.
On the afternoon of May 2, a man was driving a Nissan on Interstate 95 and found himself behind a sedan. He allegedly pulled onto the shoulder and tried to go around the vehicle, and reportedly struck it as he drove by. According to reports, he attempted to speed off, but the other driver trailed behind him and notified the authorities about the incident.
State police quickly arrived, and they reported that they believed the man driving the Nissan was intoxicated. When asked, he allegedly provided the wrong name to the trooper. When taking the roadside sobriety test, it was reported that he did not pass.
The man was taken into custody and transported to the Troop F state police barracks, where they identified the 32-year-old, who has active warrants in both Connecticut and New York. He is facing a multitude of preliminary charges, including illegal operation of a motor vehicle under the influence of alcohol or drugs, failure to maintain the proper lane on a limited access highway, criminal impersonation, interfering with an officer, operating or parking an unregistered motor vehicle, improper use of a marker or registration plate, illegal operation of a motor vehicle without minimum insurance, and evading responsibility involving property damage, in addition to three counts of second-degree failure to appear and as a fugitive from justice. At the time this was written, he was being held in lieu of a $118,000 bond.
Reports indicate that no one was hurt during the incident.
