DUI Suspect Kicked ER Nurse in Stomach

When a Florida woman suspected of driving under the influence crashed her car and was taken to the hospital, she allegedly kicked one of the attending nurses.

On the evening of February 16, a 47-year-old woman was behind the wheel of a Lexus RX 350 driving in The Villages. She reportedly slammed the vehicle into a tree on the side of the road, and the authorities were notified about the single-vehicle accident. A Florida Highway Patrol trooper and deputies from the Sumter County Sheriff’s Department went to the site to investigate the situation.

It was reported that when they first spoke to the woman, the authorities believed she had been driving under the influence of alcohol. When the interior of the vehicle was searched, two alcoholic drink containers were reportedly found in one of the side pockets on the door.

The front end of the SUV was in bad shape and the airbags deployed during the crash, so the driver was taken by responders from The Villages Fire Rescue to the Emergency Room at the UF Health The Villages Hospital for medical assessment.

A few people were in the room while the medical staff attended to the woman. While she was sitting, one of her shoes fell off, and a nurse bent down to retrieve it for her. Before the nurse could stand up, the woman allegedly kicked her in the stomach.

After her release from the hospital, the woman, whose blood-alcohol level was reported as registering .287 on the breath test, was taken into custody and booked into the Sumter County Jail. She is facing preliminary charges of DUI, in addition to a battery charge for the alleged incident with the medical professional.
