Sources report that a Texas man is in jail after allegedly assaulting his young son during a dispute over homework earlier this month.
According to charging documents, the incident reportedly happened at a home in Gatesville. The child’s mother contacted authorities on February 4 after her son told her that his father had allegedly put his hands on him the night before.
Records indicate the boy had been working on a math assignment with his father. When the child gave what was reportedly the wrong answer to a problem, the situation allegedly escalated. Authorities claim the man became upset, grabbed the child by the shoulders, and during the struggle, the boy fell backward, hitting his head and back on a metal floor strip.
The complaint further alleges that while the child was on the ground, the man grabbed him by the chin and applied pressure to his throat while yelling at him. The boy reportedly said he was later told to finish his homework and go to bed. He allegedly felt scared afterward, had difficulty breathing, and was unable to speak for a short time due to pressure on his throat.
The following day, the child’s throat pain reportedly continued, and he had trouble swallowing at school. After being picked up that afternoon, he told his mother what had allegedly occurred.
Sources report that responding officers observed visible injuries, and a medical exam was conducted at a local children’s hospital. A nurse reportedly documented bruising and abrasions consistent with assault.
The man was arrested over the weekend and remains in the county jail on a $30,000 bond. Records also show he previously received probation in a separate child injury case several years ago.
