Florida Man Accused of Mail Theft and Drug Crimes

A South Florida man was facing several felony charges after investigators allegedly found stolen mail, identification cards belonging to other people, and multiple types of drugs inside a vehicle during a mail theft investigation in Miami-Dade County.

According to the authorities, investigators had been looking into recent mail thefts connected to a residential community where individuals previously reported stolen checks, credit cards, and personal property. Surveillance footage from one of the incidents allegedly showed two people working together before leaving the area in a white SUV with what was assumed to be stolen mail.

During the investigation, postal inspectors and local deputies reportedly went to a home in southwest Miami-Dade. Investigators allegedly saw the suspect sitting inside a gray Chevrolet parked in the driveway. As he got out of the vehicle, opened mail reportedly fell onto the ground.

The authorities said they searched the vehicle and allegedly discovered a large amount of mail addressed to different people and businesses. Investigators reportedly found unopened letters connected to the IRS, Bank of America, T-Mobile, Xfinity, and several financial institutions. Authorities also said some opened investment-related mail containing account information was recovered from the vehicle.

According to the arrest report, investigators additionally found several credit and debit cards belonging to other people inside the suspect’s wallet. The authorities said at least six cards were recovered.

Investigators also allegedly located suspected crystal meth, MDMA, Xanax, and marijuana, along with scales, empty plastic baggies, and other drug paraphernalia commonly associated with narcotics distribution.

The 53-year-old suspect was later arrested and booked into jail on multiple charges, including unlawful possession of five or more identification cards, possession of controlled substances, possession with intent to sell, and possession of drug paraphernalia.

According to the authorities, the man later allegedly confessed after being advised of his rights.
