22-year-old Henry Ruggs III was a wide receiver for the Las Vegas Raiders. He signed a four-year contract with them in July 2020.
At the beginning of November, Ruggs was in an automobile accident with another vehicle. The driver of the other car did not survive the crash.
The authorities have asserted that the crash was caused by Ruggs, whose BAC was .16%. He was charged with DUI and reckless driving.
Ruggs was released from custody on $150,000 bail with stipulations such as house arrest and submitting to testing four times a day to ensure he is not using alcohol.
The Raiders released Ruggs from the team immediately after he was charged with the offenses.
On November 13, Ruggs was reportedly late taking one of his ordered alcohol tests.
According to his attorney, Ruggs’ testing device had a malfunction when he was trying to use it.
Shortly after the regular ordered time, Riggs submitted a clean test result, but he was ordered to return to court based on what was considered a missed test.
When he was in court, the Justice of the Peace reported that there was a confirmed issue with the company that administers the tests.
Ruggs, who was allegedly driving over 150 miles per hour when the accident took place, was severely injured in the wreck. He was initially unable to wear an ankle monitor to track for alcohol usage.
At his recent hearing, it was ordered that Ruggs would remain on house arrest, but he is also required to wear an ankle monitor since he has healed.
It is reported that Ruggs has been compliant with all testing other than the isolated incident.
