GameStop Line-Cutting Dispute Turned Bloody

A GameStop patron was reportedly attacked by one customer and stabbed by another when he confronted one of them for reportedly trying to cut in line to purchase Pokémon cards.

Pokémon, which was introduced to the public in 1996, is lauded as “the world’s highest-grossing media franchise.” Some of the activities in the franchise are a game using trading cards, an animated television series, and movies. Cards for the role-playing game are sold at many retailers, including video game stores. According to reports, on the morning of July 5, two individuals waiting in line to buy cards at a GameStop in Colma, California, were involved in a violent incident involving another customer.

A man was waiting in line when a 49-year-old reportedly tried to cut in front of him. He confronted him, and after a heated exchange, things got physical. The alleged line cutter reportedly grabbed a nearby mason jar and hit the man over the head, causing the glass to break. A 27-year-old man who was also in line allegedly grabbed a piece of the shattered jar and used it to cut and stab the alleged victim multiple times. When the authorities arrived, they collected pictures and license plate numbers of the cars the suspects left in.

Shortly after, both suspects were taken into custody and booked into the Maguire Correctional Facility. They are each facing preliminary charges of conspiracy to commit a crime, battery with serious bodily injury, assault with a deadly weapon and assault with force likely to produce great bodily injury – with an added allegation of great bodily injury. According to reports, at the time this was written, they were both being held in lieu of $250,000 bonds. The alleged victim was reported as being in stable condition.
