A home health aide who was trying to stop an argument between roommates was reportedly struck by a hand-held container filled with urine when she intervened.
60-year-old Beth Redden and her 83-year-old roommate live in the Teakwood Village Mobile Home Park in Largo, Florida.
Around 2:45 PM on June 27, Redden and her 83-year-old roommate, Theodore Hamilton, were at their home. Joyce Lawrence, a home health care nurse, was also at the residence.
According to reports, Redden and her roommate began to argue.
The dispute allegedly escalated and Redden reportedly grabbed a few cans of soda and threw them in Hamilton’s direction. The cans reportedly struck the man, but they did not hurt him. Redden also allegedly threw a metal cane at Hamilton.
Lawrence reported that she viewed the altercation when it occurred, and she said that she tried to stop the fight.
Redden reportedly did not appreciate Lawrence interceding. The woman allegedly hit the home health aide in the stomach more than once.
When Lawrence tried to get away from her, Redden allegedly grabbed a hand-held urinal that her roommate had used.
According to the police report, Redden threw the urinal in Lawrence’s direction. The bottle’s contents spilled out and drenched the nurse, in addition to dirtying the home with the excrement.
The authorities were notified, and officers with the Largo Police Department went to the address.
When they arrived, they noted that Hamilton did not have any marks on his body. They reported that a fluid that smelled like urine was all over Lawrence.
Redden was placed under arrest for suspicion of two felony counts of battery on a person 65 years of age or older. Her bond was set at $5,000.
It was reported that Redden has entered a plea of not guilty.
