Kindergarten Teacher Accused of Using Cocaine at School

A 58-year-old kindergarten teacher in Wisconsin was placed on administrative leave after the authorities began investigating allegations of cocaine possession at an elementary school in New London.

It was reported that the investigation was opened after an individual contacted a school resource officer at Lincoln Elementary School to report concerns about the teacher’s behavior. The individual reportedly claimed that the teacher had recently been acting differently and appeared unfocused. The person also allegedly reported finding a white powdery substance on a bathroom counter inside the teacher’s classroom and said they saw used tissues with blood on them in a trash can.

According to the authorities, the school principal had previously been made aware of concerns about the teacher’s behavior. The principal reportedly indicated that the students were not believed to be at risk.

After receiving the complaint, the school resource officer went to the classroom bathroom and reportedly observed a powdery substance on the counter. An initial on-site test was conducted and reportedly produced a negative result for cocaine, but the officer believed the sample may have been compromised. A second sample was later tested and allegedly returned a positive result for cocaine.

On February 12, the authorities brought a K-9 unit to the school parking lot. The K-9 reportedly detected narcotics near the teacher’s vehicle. They searched her car, but the police reported that no drugs were found inside the vehicle. However, the teacher allegedly had cocaine in her purse and coat pocket.

The authorities also reported that the teacher agreed to speak with investigators. During that conversation, she allegedly admitted to purchasing cocaine earlier in the week and to using it inside school bathrooms. She reportedly stated that she did not leave drugs behind and cleaned up after herself.

The woman was taken into custody on suspicion of possession of cocaine and was later released from jail.
