A Springfield man is facing burglary and drug charges after police say he kicked down an apartment door, threw furniture around, and confronted a resident inside.
The incident happened Saturday, August 22, after the resident reported that the man was threatening to assault him and his son, according to a police probable cause statement.
The resident told officers he had been awakened by loud banging and found the man kicking down the front door. The man allegedly entered the apartment, threw furniture around, and threw a vacuum at the resident.
The resident said he was backed into the kitchen and used a rolling chair to keep the man away. He then pointed a handgun at the man and told him to leave, according to police. When the man continued yelling, the resident retreated to a bedroom and locked the door.
Officers later found the man pacing on a second-floor balcony. Police said he pointed toward the victim’s apartment before returning to his own apartment.
When officers inspected the residence, they found furniture overturned and the front door’s trim and frame on the floor.
The resident told police he works as a maintenance employee for the apartment complex and had been involved in a disturbance with the man’s girlfriend several days earlier.
After the man’s arrest, police said he told them he had cocaine in his pants. Officers found a blue bag containing a white substance, according to the probable cause statement.
The suspect has been charged with first-degree burglary and possession of a controlled substance, according to online court records. He is being held in the Greene County Jail on a $25,000 bond.
The resident later told police that his son’s apartment had also been kicked in.
