Man Arrested for Whipping Daughter During Church Dispute

A Florida man was arrested last weekend after being accused of whipping and hitting his daughter because she did not want to go to church.

On the morning of September 28, a 63-year-old man and his minor daughter reportedly had a violent encounter in the Miami Gardens home where they reside with relatives. The incident allegedly occurred after the man went into the girl’s room and tried to insist that she get up and attend church, but she would not go. He reportedly became angry, and after allegedly punching her, it was believed that he hit her with an electrical cord. According to reports, the girl went into the yard and called the authorities. Her father also called 911 regarding the incident.

Officers went to the residence to investigate, and they reported that they went into the yard to talk to the girl. They noted that she had a cut on her arm, and she told them it was caused by her father striking her with the cord. When her father talked to the police, he reportedly said his daughter made him mad because she would not get out of bed and go to church.

The man was taken into custody and booked into the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center. He is facing preliminary charges of child abuse with no great bodily harm. According to records, at the time this was written, he was being held in lieu of a $2,500 bond. If he is released, he is not allowed to contact the alleged victim.

The Department of Children and Families, in addition to Mental Health Outreach and Victim Empowerment Squad deputies, joined the police in the investigation of the situation.
