After the police reportedly found that a man was in possession of psilocybin mushrooms, he allegedly told them that a show on Netflix encouraged him to want to experience the effects for himself.
Late in the evening on February 4, 41-year-old Christopher Singleton was reportedly driving in a pickup truck in Wildwood, Florida.
An officer on patrol saw the license plate on the vehicle and believed that the registration tag looked suspicious. It reportedly appeared as if it was skewed sideways.
The officer thought that the tag might have been invalid, and a traffic stop was performed.
When the officer spoke with Singleton, it was reported that the smell of freshly smoked marijuana was present.
Singleton was informed that the vehicle was not legally registered. The man disputed the claim and said he recently bought the truck from his brother after it was procured at an auction.
The officer addressed the smell of marijuana, and Singleton allegedly said he had CBD oil for vaping.
Singleton’s truck was searched, and the authorities reported that a fabric bag with a Crown Royal logo on it was found.
When the contents of the bag were searched, the police allegedly found three baggies of what they believed was cannabis, THC extract sugar wax, a plastic bag containing what appeared to be psilocybin mushrooms, and unused glass pipes.
The authorities reported that there was a total weight of one ounce of marijuana divided between the three baggies. They also reported the weight of the other narcotics as 3 grams of psilocybin mushrooms, and 5 grams of THC extract oil (wax).
When Singleton was read his rights, it was reported that he chose to speak to the authorities without an attorney present.
The man allegedly disclosed that he had seen a show on Netflix where psilocybin mushrooms were consumed, and he wanted to try it for himself.
Singleton was taken into custody and booked into the Sumter County Jail. He is facing charges of possession of more than 20 grams of marijuana, and two counts of possession of a controlled substance without a prescription. He was held in lieu of a $6,250 bond.
