A man who was upset about missing items from his pizza order allegedly attacked a restaurant employee until the worker stabbed him in what the authorities reported was an act of self-defense.
40-year-old Herbert Harris lives in Woodbridge, Maryland.
On the evening of August 17, Harris went to a Papa John’s restaurant near his home to pick up a pizza order.
He left the establishment with the food, and when Harris opened the pizza box, he noticed that the pepperoncini and garlic dipping sauce he ordered were missing.
The man made his way back to the restaurant to complain about the absent items.
When Harris arrived, he allegedly started to yell at one of the members of the staff about the mistake.
Things got heated, and Harris reportedly went behind the counter and grabbed a pizza paddle from the kitchen area.
Harris allegedly shoved the employee, and he reportedly began to chase the man around the restaurant while striking him with the paddle.
The employee grabbed a pizza spear and used it to stab Harris in a purported attempt to escape the alleged assault.
The authorities were notified, and deputies with the Harford County Sheriff’s Office went to the location.
The deputies reported that Harris was using a t-shirt to put pressure on his wound, and the man was yelling at the staff.
It was reported that the police determined the employee “grabbed a pizza spear to defend himself from the attack.”
Harris was transported to the Johns Hopkins Bayview Medical Center for treatment, and his wounds were assessed to be non-life-threatening.
He is expected to face charges of second-degree assault for the incident.
