An Alabama man has been accused of sexually assaulting a woman he met on social media when she went to meet him in person.
23-year-old Lazerick Deon Benjamin is from Northport. It is reported that he recently bonded out of jail for an arrest related to a theft offense.
According to reports, Benjamin recently met a woman through social media.
After they became acquainted, the pair reportedly decided to meet in person, and the woman went to Benjamin’s residence.
It was reported by the Tuscaloosa Violent Crimes Unit that on the evening of February 26, the Northport Police Department was informed that someone had been the victim of a sexual assault.
Officers were sent to the address given.
When they talked to the alleged victim and she told the police what reportedly transpired, she explained that she met Benjamin online and went to his home for their first in-person encounter.
While she was reportedly at his house, the alleged victim reported that the man grabbed her and physically restricted her from getting away before allegedly sexually assaulting her.
According to the authorities, the woman was injured when the man allegedly forced her to take part in a sexual encounter against her will.
The police opened an investigation, and they searched for Benjamin due to the allegations.
It was reported that within hours of receiving the report, the authorities tracked down and detained Benjamin for the alleged rape.
Benjamin was taken into custody and booked into the Tuscaloosa County Jail. He is facing charges for suspicion of one count of first-degree rape and two counts of first-degree sodomy, and he is currently being held without bond.
