Man got Stuck in Chimney in Attempt to Avoid Arrest

When the police tried to arrest a man wanted for drug offenses, he got stuck inside a chimney while allegedly trying to escape.

On December 10, Fall River Police Department detectives from the Community Action and Suppression Team went to a residence in Fall River with a search warrant. They initially interacted with two men, who reportedly took off and headed to the roof in a purported attempt to get away. According to reports, one of them was successful in escaping after he jumped off the roof and a vehicle below broke his fall. The second man allegedly used more unconventional means to try to dodge the detectives and began going down the chimney. Moments later, the suspect got stuck.

The officers, one of whom called the man an idiot, realized he was trapped and that they were going to have to help dislodge him from the flue. They called for backup, and the Fall River Fire Department, in addition to medics from the Fall River Emergency Medical Services showed up at the address to assist with the situation. It was reported that they had to remove bricks to get the suspect out of the chimney.

The man was taken into custody and transported to the hospital to make sure he did not require medical attention. Afterward, he was jailed on suspicion of possession of Class A drugs and possession of Class B drugs. He was also charged with having outstanding warrants. A woman who was at the residence was arrested on drug charges as well.

At the time this was written, the authorities were still searching for the individual who jumped off the roof.
