When police approached an Alabama man parked on the side of the Interstate, they accused him of trafficking drugs after they allegedly discovered he was holding a sizeable amount of narcotics.
Just after midnight on April 2, a man from Athens was riding his motorcycle, which was reported as having a concealed license plate, on I-65. According to reports, the 52-year-old pulled over and stopped on the side of the road, when officers from the Priceville Police Department spotted him. They pulled over and approached him to see if the man needed help and noted that there was tape covering part of the motorcycle’s license plate. When the officers started talking to him, they believed the man was behaving suspiciously. They also thought he smelled like he had marijuana. They decided to call for backup and requested the assistance of a K9.
According to reports, when the other officers got to the location, they used the K9 to help them investigate, and the police dog reacted in a way that indicated it was likely narcotics were present. The police searched the man and reported that he had a pair of brass knuckles. They also allegedly discovered several pieces of drug paraphernalia, marijuana, and a large amount of something they believed to be an illicit substance. It was reported that the authorities later learned it was a combination of fentanyl and methamphetamine.
The man was taken into custody without incident and booked into the Morgan County Jail. He is facing preliminary charges of trafficking dangerous drugs, unlawful possession of marijuana (second offense), unlawful possession of drug paraphernalia, and possession of brass knuckles. According to reports, he was being held in lieu of a $250,000 bond.
