Man with 6 Times Legal BAC had 12 Empty Wine Bottles in Car

A Florida man was arrested after the police reportedly found him behind the wheel with a BAC over six times the legal limit for operating a motor vehicle.

On January 7, a man was in Haines City sitting in a vehicle when someone spotted him and thought he looked like he might need help. They notified the authorities, and an officer from the Haines City Police Department who was on patrol nearby went to the scene to investigate the report. When they arrived and approached the car, the officer reported that it was running, and the man was unresponsive when he tried to wake him up.

According to reports, the man had his foot on the brake, and the car was reportedly in gear. After quickly blocking the car with his police vehicle, the officer entered the man’s vehicle and turned off the ignition. When he looked around the car, the officer allegedly found 12 empty wine bottles.

The driver was arrested and taken to the hospital. It was reported that a test was performed, and it gave a result of .523 BAC.

After he was discharged from the hospital, the man was booked into the Polk County Jail. He is facing a preliminary charge for a DUI with a BAC over .15 with an enhancement for having a person under the age of 18 in the vehicle, but at the time this was written there were no reports about the minor’s presence or their relationship to the suspect. The man was released from custody two days later, after posting a $1000 bond. If he is convicted of the charge, he could spend up to 9 months behind bars in addition to having to pay a fine between $1000 and $2,000.
