Mom Accused of DUI After Crash with Six Children

A Texas woman driving with her six children, who were allegedly not wearing seatbelts, was accused of operating the vehicle while under the influence of alcohol after she reportedly crashed into a pole.

On the afternoon of November 28, the authorities received a report of a single-car crash in San Antonio. Deputies from the Bexar County Sheriff’s Office went to the location to investigate, and they reported that they found an SUV on the side of the road that had crashed into a pole. A 31-year-old woman was identified as the driver, and her six children were with her. The youngsters were between the ages of 2 and 12 years old. Everyone in the vehicle appeared to require medical treatment.

The authorities were able to review forensic data, and they reported that the woman may have been driving approximately 20 miles over the posted speed limit. They also noted that it appeared as if she had lost control of the vehicle before crashing into the pole.

The mother and her children were all taken to a local hospital, where she and 5 of the youngsters were treated for minor injuries, but her 11-year-old had been seriously injured and was in critical condition. Medical personnel reported that the woman seemed intoxicated, and blood tests reportedly showed she had drugs and alcohol in her system. Child Protective Services was notified about the situation, and they opened an investigation.

The woman is facing multiple preliminary charges, including two counts of intoxication assault with a vehicle, six counts of injury to a child, and six counts of aggravated assault causing serious bodily injury. According to reports, at the time this was written, she was being held in jail in lieu of a $600,000 bond.
