A man in Nebraska was arrested after an allegedly violent encounter in which he was accused of assaulting and holding his former girlfriend captive inside a residence.
The situation reportedly began a few weeks earlier when the man was released on bond following a separate case involving allegations of strangulation. Later that day, his ex-girlfriend went to his home to bring him a homemade meal. She said that when she arrived, he attacked her until she lost consciousness. When she woke up, she reportedly found herself in a different house that he owned. The two stayed there together for several hours, and he allegedly made alarming statements, including asking her to end his life, and reportedly threatened to kill them both.
Law enforcement received information indicating that the woman might need help, and officers, accompanied by SWAT members, went to the address provided by the caller. They forced their way into the residence and found the pair inside. When they spoke with the woman, she said the man had been trying to release natural gas into the home. Authorities reported that the gas was still present. The woman also alleged that the man struck her in the head with a glass bottle and attempted to strangle her again as law enforcement entered.
Emergency responders transported the woman to a local hospital for treatment of multiple injuries, including rib fractures, a brain bleed, and a broken nose. Investigators reported finding blood and clumps of hair inside the home, and the man was taken into custody.
He is facing several preliminary felony charges, including kidnapping, terroristic threats, and use of a weapon to commit a felony. If convicted, he could receive a life sentence. A protection order had previously been issued against him, but was lifted at the woman’s request.
