Probationer Arrested After Traffic Stop Leads to Drug Seizure

A Wisconsin man on probation from a prior conviction for drug and weapons offenses was arrested after a traffic stop, during which the authorities allegedly found narcotics and a knife in his vehicle.

According to reports, just before midnight on October 26, a 54-year-old man was driving in Monona when he was spotted by an officer. The officer asserted that the back license plate on the vehicle was not as visible as required by law. In addition, it was reported that the car did not stay in one lane. The officer performed a traffic stop, and the man operating the vehicle pulled over without incident.

The officer identified the driver, a man from Madison who was allegedly behind the wheel with a revoked driver’s license, in addition to being on probation. When talking to him about the situation, the man reportedly said he knew his license was not valid. Officers, including a K9, assisted at the scene, and they searched the vehicle.

It was reported that 19.8 grams of methamphetamine and 2.6 grams of cocaine, digital scales, baggies, cash, and assorted pieces of drug paraphernalia were discovered. They also allegedly found a knife.

The man was taken into custody, and he is being held at the Public Safety Building Jail. It was reported that he is facing multiple preliminary charges, including one felony count of manufacture/delivery of methamphetamine and cocaine (between 10 grams and 50 grams), one misdemeanor count of possession of a concealed knife by a prohibited person, one count of possession of drug paraphernalia, and a probation violation. According to facility records, a judge has since determined that the weapon possession charge was found to have insufficient evidence.
