Probationer Jailed After Choking Pregnant Woman

A man currently on probation for manslaughter is facing multiple charges after he allegedly violently attacked a pregnant woman with whom he lives.

Late in the afternoon on August 14, an incident occurred at a Port Charlotte residence that landed a man who was on parole for manslaughter back behind bars. According to reports, the 38-year-old lives in the home with a pregnant woman and members of their family. They were in the kitchen together, and the pair reportedly began arguing. Things quickly intensified, and the man allegedly held her head while screaming at her. It was reported that the family saw him yank the woman by the hair and pull her into the hallway. When he let go, she got a kitchen knife and went outside, but returned and went to her room.

The man reportedly trailed after her, and though her family said they tried to stop him, he got into the bedroom and allegedly choked the woman until she passed out for a few moments. She regained consciousness and went outside to call 911 before the man reportedly took her phone and smashed it. Deputies from the Charlotte County Sheriff’s Office and EMS workers from the county fire department went to the address. The woman was taken to a local hospital for medical treatment, and the deputies spoke with people who said they were witnesses.

The man, who reportedly said the incident began with a fight about noodles, was found nearby and arrested. He is facing multiple preliminary charges, including felony aggravated battery of a pregnant woman, felony domestic battery by strangulation, felony tampering with a witness, misdemeanor resisting an officer without violence, and violation of probation or community control. According to facility records, at the time this was written, he was being held in the county jail without bond due to his fugitive status.
