Suspect Attacked Woman and Tried to Steal Baby

A man was arrested after allegedly physically assaulting a woman before trying to steal her sister’s infant.

27-year-old Kenneth P. Peterson is from Joliet, Illinois.

In the evening on August 9, Peterson allegedly showed up at a residence on the West side of town where his girlfriend’s vehicle was parked.

The man, who was allegedly drunk, reportedly climbed into the car and began continuously sounding the horn.

His girlfriend’s sister came out of the home and went to the vehicle. The keys had been left inside the car, and the woman took them.

Peterson reportedly continued to act like a nuisance, and the situation escalated.

The man allegedly grabbed his girlfriend’s sister by the hair and hit her in the face.

Peterson’s girlfriend was reportedly standing nearby, and she had a baby in her arms when the physical assault allegedly took place. The man allegedly approached her and took the baby. Peterson then reportedly ran off.

The authorities had been notified about the situation, and when officers were on their way to the address, they reported that they saw Peterson holding a baby while running down the road.

When police officers started to run after him, the man reportedly placed the infant on the ground and tried to flee.

When they were able to catch up to the man, the authorities reported that he was uncooperative and continued struggling against their attempts to detain him.

Peterson was booked into the county jail. It is expected he will face charges for aggravated battery, domestic battery, resisting a peace officer, obstructing a peace officer, criminal property damage, criminal trespass to a motor vehicle and endangering the life of a child.
