Suspects Arrested in Connection with Airbnb Burglary

Four people in Texas were arrested for burglary and drug charges after they were accused of robbing the belongings of people who were staying in an Airbnb.

Airbnb, a service defined as “an American company operating an online marketplace for short-and long-term homestays, experiences, and services in various countries and regions,” has become an increasingly popular alternative to hotels for those seeking boarding accommodations. Most hosts and guests report having good experiences, but on September 13, people staying in an Airbnb in Austin reportedly had a less fortunate experience.

When the visitors returned to their rental after a trip to another city, they reported being met by multiple people who were stealing their belongings. The alleged thieves left before the authorities arrived, and they were caught when they returned to the property.

In addition to the three people believed to be involved with the burglary, one of the residents was also taken into custody. The 40-year-old man was booked into the Travis County Correctional Complex. He may face charges of unlawful possession of a firearm by a felon, a third-degree felony, manufacture or delivery of a controlled substance between 4 grams and 200 grams. The 36-year-old man, who was also booked into the Travis County Correctional Complex, is accused of possession of less than one gram of a controlled substance, in addition to having a warrant in another county for a drug charge. The 36-year-old woman was housed in the Travis County Jail, and she is facing preliminary charges of second-degree felony burglary of a dwelling and second-degree felony possession of a controlled substance between 4 grams and 200 grams, in addition to possibly having her probation revoked for a prior felony. The 32-year-old, who was also booked into the county jail, is suspected of burglary of a dwelling.
