Suspect’s Gun Discharged During Scuffle with Officer

A Massachusetts man was arrested after a loaded gun he was reportedly carrying discharged a bullet during an alleged struggle with an officer during a traffic stop.

Early in the afternoon on May 25, an officer from the Boston Police Department was patrolling in Dorchester when he pulled over a driver of a vehicle that he believed had committed a traffic law violation. It was reported that the man was uncooperative, would not share his identity when asked, and things quickly went south when a struggle ensued between the pair. The driver was allegedly carrying a loaded gun on his person, and it went off during the scuffle. Neither party was hit by the bullet, and additional law enforcement came to the scene to assist.

The officers reported that the gun was loaded with 14 rounds, in addition to a casing in the chamber. When they searched the vehicle, they allegedly found a substance that appeared to be Fentanyl and pills they believed were prescription medication.

The suspect was taken into custody and taken to the hospital for medical treatment. He is facing many preliminary charges, including unlawful possession of a large capacity firearm, possession of ammunition without a firearm identification card, discharging a firearm within 500 feet of a building, assault and battery on a police officer, resisting arrest, operating a motor vehicle with a suspended license, refusing to identify himself while operating a motor vehicle, trafficking a Class A substance, and possession of a Class B substance with intent to distribute.

In a press release, the Boston Police Department reported that they discovered the man additionally had “four active warrants for his arrest for various charges to include firearm, drug, and motor vehicle law offenses.”
