A Tennessee police officer was charged with multiple crimes after he allegedly assaulted his estranged girlfriend, destroyed her belongings, and threatened to kill her while on duty.

According to court documents, on August 20, the officer began his shift early. He reportedly went to his girlfriend’s apartment and used a gate code not meant for public access to repeatedly enter the complex. The woman told investigators that when she returned home around 6:30 a.m., she found him waiting outside her door. The two had been in a strained romantic relationship, and she had recently asked him to return her apartment key. They began arguing, and he accused her of being unfaithful and reportedly demanded to look through her phone.

They ended up in the woman’s bedroom, and the situation escalated. The officer allegedly grabbed a screwdriver and stabbed her television several times, and she told him to leave. Instead, he reportedly wrestled with her while trying to take her cellphone. She said she was crying and begging him not to destroy it, and after reportedly doing so, he allegedly threw her onto the bed as she tried to get away.
