A criminal defense attorney in northeastern Florida is facing multiple charges after allegedly smuggling drugs into the county jail by soaking what was believed to be legal documents with the illegal substance.

According to reports, due to a recent surge in inmate deaths from drug overdoses, the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office started an investigation called “Operation Stamp Collection” to try to find out how the people housed in the Duvall County Jail were getting their hands on the narcotics. Since February, 21 suspects have been arrested for their alleged participation, but the authorities believe each person acted individually.

On January 5. a man identified as a 37-year-old local defense attorney was arrested for his suspected involvement. The authorities believe he was soaking sheets of paper thought to be legal documents with liquid ADB-PINACA, also known as synthetic marijuana, “paper dope,” and “K2.” It was reported that he sometimes brought the Schedule I controlled substance into the facility on his own. On other occasions, he allegedly had relatives of inmates smuggle the tainted papers in. The investigators also asserted that the man was charging money for the drugs and deliveries.
