Two Oregon men are facing multiple charges after allegedly taking approximately $60,000 from a bank by stealing an excavator and reportedly using it to break open two ATMs.
At approximately 5:00 am on June 23, a U.S. Bank in Clackamas was the victim of a heist involving the destruction of two ATMs in the drive-thru banking lanes. It was reported that the arm of an excavator was used to demolish the machines, and it was abandoned at the bank with the engine running. The authorities were notified about the situation, and the Clackamas County Sheriff’s Office opened an investigation. They reported that in addition to damage to the building, the bank estimated $60,000 was missing. They also discovered that the excavator was taken from a construction site near the bank. They began searching for the suspect or suspects.
The authorities believed they knew who was involved in the incident and tracked down one of the suspects, age 32, when they spotted him leaving a local apartment complex. The following day, they found a second man, age 51, who was also purported to be a part of the robbery.
