Teacher Accused of Sexual Online Chat with Underage Student

A Kentucky school teacher is facing a grand jury after allegedly having inappropriate contact through social media with a student under the age of 12.

According to the authorities, the situation took place on December 15 and was initiated by a 5th-grade math teacher from Smyrna Elementary School in Louisville. The students were not on campus as it was a Non-Traditional Instruction Day, but the woman reportedly contacted a child, who has only been described as being under 12 years old, using computer-mediated communication.

It was reported that while they texted, the woman made comments that were sexual in nature. She allegedly told the boy that she wanted to perform oral sex on him and reportedly arranged to meet him off campus. When the school district learned of the potential situation, they reported it to the police.

The woman was taken into custody and booked into the Oceola County Jail. She is facing multiple charges, including felony unlawful use of electronic means to induce a minor to engage in sexual activity for the alleged incident with the youngster, in addition to drug charges, including second-degree possession of a controlled substance (unspecified) and first-degree possession of a controlled substance (hydrocodone). During an interview with the police, she allegedly initially told them that she did send messages to the boy. She has since pleaded not guilty to the allegations against her.

The teacher was released from the facility on a $100,000 bond, and she must follow the judge’s orders by staying on house arrest, staying off social media, and is prohibited from having any contact with the alleged victim. Additionally, the school district released information stating that the woman would be taken out of the classroom and placed in a position where she would not be working with children while the case continues.
