Teen Charged as Adult for Stabbing Co-Worker over AirPods

The authorities are planning to charge a 17-year-old as an adult after he allegedly stabbed a co-worker with steak knives for a misunderstanding about a pair of Apple AirPods.

Last Monday, two 17-year-olds who work together at a Regal movie theater in Key West got into a fight.

Approximately one week earlier, one of the young men borrowed a pair of wireless earbuds from someone, and they resembled a pair belonging to the other 17-year-old. He picked up what he thought was the pair of AirPods he borrowed, and they turned out to be the wrong pair. The man said he was going to bring them to work the following day to return them to their rightful owner.

According to reports, the man forgot to bring them and assured the owner that he would remember the next day.

Around 1:00 a.m., both men were in the cinema parking lot, when a skirmish broke out over the missing AirPods. The owner of the electronics allegedly retrieved two knives from his backpack and stabbed his co-worker several times.

Officers with the Key West Police went to the location just before 1:30 a.m., and the alleged victim had already been taken to the hospital.

On October 2, Monroe County prosecutors announced their intentions to charge the Key West High School student, who was still in custody at the juvenile detention facility, as an adult. He is facing one count of attempted first-degree murder.

The alleged victim was taken to Lower Keys Medical Center and then transferred by airlift to HCA Florida Kendall Hospital in Miami-Dade, where he was admitted to the intensive care unit. Most recently, he was reported as being in stable condition.
