Teen Kidnapped by Parents for Refusing Arranged Marriage

The parents of a 17-year-old allegedly attacked and tried to kidnap her when she refused their plans for her to leave the country and take part in an arranged marriage.

On the afternoon of October 18, a teenage girl and her 16-year-old boyfriend were at the bus stop outside Timberline High School in Lacey, Washington, when the girl’s parents pulled up and began arguing with her. According to reports, things escalated, and her father allegedly began choking her. When her boyfriend tried to get involved, the man reportedly punched him. People in the area noticed the incident and intervened, and the teens ran from the scene.

The authorities were notified, and the 17-year-old girl told the police that her parents arranged to send her to another country to marry an older man. She reported that her father said she would be murdered in an “honor killing” if she did not comply.

The man was arrested on suspicion of first-degree attempted kidnapping, domestic violence, second-degree assault, domestic violence, as well as fourth-degree assault, and they were upgraded to include second-degree attempted murder (domestic violence). He was released on $150,000 bail, and he must wear a GPS ankle monitor at all times. It was also ordered that he cannot have any contact with his daughter or his wife.

On October 23, his wife was taken into custody. She is expected to face charges of second-degree assault, domestic violence, second-degree burglary, and violation of a protection order, and they were upgraded to include second-degree attempted murder (domestic violence). She was held on a $500,000 bond, and upon her release, she was prohibited from contacting her daughter and her daughter’s boyfriend.

It was reported that neither suspect has a prior criminal record.
