Early in the morning on October 2, employees at a Kum & Go Gas Station and Convenience Store in Owasso, Oklahoma, saw a pick-up truck parked in front of a gas pump for hours. They noticed the driver never got out of the vehicle and did not try to put fuel in it, and they believed something was amiss. The authorities were notified to get assistance in removing him from the property.
Officers from the Owasso Police Department went to the store, and the truck was still parked at the pump with a man in the driver’s seat. They told him he would have to leave the premises, and the man stayed silent when they spoke to him. The officers eventually left when the business said they did not initially want to press charges, but they returned half an hour later when they changed their minds.
The police used several tactics, such as tire deflation gear, in their attempts to arrest the driver. He reportedly sped away with a broken windshield and two flats, and the authorities pursued him through three counties. During the alleged chase, additional spike strips busted the other two tires on the truck, but the man continued speeding for a while longer before he was forced to stop. He reportedly continued resisting until he was Tased.
After being medically cleared at the hospital, the man was taken into custody and booked into the Tulsa Jail. He is facing preliminary charges of two felony counts of eluding (endangering others), trespassing after being forbidden, resisting arrest, obstructing police, reckless driving, taxes due to the state because of an expired tag, failure to keep in proper lane, unsafe lane changes, improper passing, and other traffic-related charges. Facility records reflect that he was released from custody on bond the following afternoon.
