Tryst between Inmate and Officer led to Pregnancy and Charges

A prison officer allegedly took part in a long-term sexual relationship with a prisoner which resulted in her pregnancy and arrest.

26-year-old Haven Shank lives in Saint Joseph. She is a corrections officer at the Western Reception Diagnostic and Correctional Center.

Starting last fall, Shank and one of the prisoners in the facility reportedly established a connection that cultivated in the pair allegedly partaking in sexual intercourse.

The alleged illegal intimate affair reportedly continued for several months.

This April, a person came forward to the Missouri Department of Corrections and claimed that Shank shared that she had become pregnant. They additionally said that Shank identified an inmate as the father.

The person also allegedly claimed they overheard Shank and the purported father of the unborn child talking on the telephone about what to name the baby.

An investigation into the claim was opened, and the authorities said that they interviewed the inmate suspected of having the sexual relationship with the guard.

During a taped session, the man reportedly said that he and Shank had intercourse at least 5 times. The man also allegedly confirmed that the conversation with the woman about naming the baby did occur.

In June, Shank’s ex-husband spoke to the authorities about the allegations. The man allegedly claimed that her family was aware of the pregnancy and that they had told him about the situation.

Her ex-husband gave the authorities a screenshot that appeared as if it had been taken from Shank’s personal Twitter account. The message reportedly stated that she was with child, in addition to confirming who the father is.

Shank was arrested, and she is charged with felony engaging in sexual contact with a prisoner.
