Two Children on Minibike Injured by Hit-and-Run Suspect

A woman in Wisconsin was arrested after the authorities accused her of hitting two children who were on a minibike with her vehicle and driving away.

Early in the evening on October 18, an 11-year-old male and an 8-year-old female were riding a minibike in The Village of Lisbon. According to reports, they were at an intersection when a vehicle crashed into them. The driver was later identified as a 26-year-old woman who had only been living in the state for a short time. She reportedly initially kept driving, leaving the youngsters injured in the road, and people who lived in the area left their homes to help the kids. Approximately two minutes later, the driver came back.

The authorities were notified, and multiple agencies went to the scene to assist. The girl did not appear to have sustained serious injuries, but the boy needed immediate medical attention. Both children were taken to a local hospital for treatment.

When she talked to the police, the driver allegedly told them she had been unsuccessful when she tried to swerve around the minibike. She reportedly did not admit to leaving, but the authorities said someone filmed the incident, and they believed it was evidence that she initially drove away.

The woman was taken into custody and booked into the Waukesha County Jail. She is facing preliminary charges of knowingly operating a vehicle without a valid license and hit and run involving great bodily harm. According to online records, at the time this was written, she was being held in lieu of a $50,000 cash bond. A news release from the sheriff’s office indicated that the district attorney’s office was still reviewing the potential charges.

It was reported that the boy was diagnosed with broken legs, a head injury and was stable but in critical condition.
