An employee at a Nebraska Walmart was hailed down by a customer and assisted the woman, who alleged that she was being held captive and physically harmed by her boyfriend.
According to reports, a woman from Kansas was recently staying with her boyfriend in a camper in Beatrice, a southeastern Nebraska town approximately 40 miles away from Lincoln. The pair, who reportedly had not been getting along, went to a Walmart store late in the afternoon on October 28. While there, the woman successfully caught the attention of one of the employees, and the worker followed her into the restroom. The woman reportedly told the worker that her boyfriend had been holding her against her will and had taken away her phone so she could not call for help. The employee notified the authorities about the situation, and deputies from the Gage County Sheriff’s Office went to investigate.
When they arrived at the scene, the deputies noted that the suspect was still there. When they spoke to the alleged victim, she reportedly told them that she wanted to go back to Kansas, but her boyfriend would not let her leave. According to reports, the woman added that during the previous two days she had been assaulted, and that he had strangled her at least 5 or 6 times. She said she took the opportunity to tell the Walmart employee since she was unable to call for help without her phone.
The man was taken into custody and booked into the Gage County Detention Center. He is facing preliminary charges of assault by strangulation and third-degree domestic assault, with two priors. At the time this was written, facility records indicated that he was still in the county lockup.
