A 24-year-old Pennsylvania woman is facing multiple criminal charges after authorities say she allegedly drove a golf cart while intoxicated and crashed, resulting in the death of one passenger.
According to court records, the crash reportedly occurred on May 24 in Jackson Township, Pennsylvania. Authorities stated that six people were riding in a four-seat golf cart at the time of the incident.
Investigators allege that the woman was driving on a residential road when she entered a curve, lost control of the vehicle, and crashed. As a result, three passengers were reportedly thrown from the golf cart and into the roadway. Responding troopers with the Pennsylvania State Police reported that they found the cart partially off the road when they arrived.
One of the passengers was found with a serious head injury and was treated at the scene before being airlifted to a hospital in Pittsburgh, where she died two days later from her injuries. An autopsy was performed, and it revealed that the cause of death was blunt force trauma to the head, neck, and torso.
A second passenger also reportedly sustained a head injury and had to get stitches. At the time this was written, information about the conditions of the other passengers had not been released.
The authorities stated that the driver showed signs of intoxication at the scene. After field sobriety testing, her blood was drawn to check her BAC. Test results allegedly showed a blood alcohol concentration of .164%, which is more than twice the legal limit of .08% in Pennsylvania.
The woman was taken into custody this week. She is reportedly charged with vehicular homicide, aggravated assault by vehicle while driving under the influence, reckless endangerment, reckless driving, and careless driving unintentionally causing death.
