A Florida woman was accused of hitting another driver in the face with a glass bottle of vegan mayonnaise during a road rage confrontation in Estero.
According to deputies, the incident began around 4 p.m. on August 20, when a van allegedly cut off another vehicle. The driver of the other vehicle honked her horn. The authorities said the passenger in the van responded by yelling profanities and making an obscene gesture.
After the vehicles went through an intersection, the van moved into another lane. The other driver pulled alongside the van, and the two women reportedly began arguing through their open windows.
According to the alleged victim, she suddenly felt pain in her face after seeing an arm come through the window of the other vehicle. She then saw a glass bottle inside her car. Deputies said the bottle had been thrown at her, striking her face and leaving a cut beneath her eye.
The woman drove to an emergency room for treatment and then contacted authorities. According to deputies, the van left the area after the bottle was thrown.
The alleged victim later saw the same vehicle in Fort Myers and called the authorities, who located the vehicle and spoke with the suspect about the situation.
According to the Lee County Sheriff’s Office, the woman admitted throwing the bottle during the confrontation. Deputies took her into custody, and she was booked into the Lee County Jail. The woman was accused of aggravated battery with a deadly weapon and a weapon offense involving a missile into a dwelling, vehicle, building or aircraft, according to the sheriff’s office. She was released after posting a $20,000 bond.
The bottle reportedly contained Veganaise, an egg-free, vegan version of mayonnaise.
