A poolside incident at a Florida resort led to the arrest of a vacationing woman after a child was allegedly held underwater during a confrontation involving several children.
According to reports, the incident happened on the afternoon of December 19, at a large resort in Kissimmee, Florida, where a woman was staying with her family. Several children were playing together in a swimming pool, and they began splashing each other. The splashing appeared to be getting aggressive, and when it reportedly continued to escalate, one of the parents who was sitting nearby noticed the ruckus and became concerned for her son. She decided to intervene on his behalf.
The woman allegedly got into the pool after seeing her child involved in the interaction. Police reports indicate that she confronted another child, a 6-year-old boy, and reportedly pushed him underwater while holding him down by putting her hands on his shoulders. The officers reported that the child was held under the water for several seconds before being released.
After the encounter, the boy reportedly left the pool and went to find his parents. The woman involved then allegedly got into a verbal confrontation with them before leaving the pool area. The police noted that the alleged victim was visibly upset, and his nose was bleeding. Deputies were called to the resort later that afternoon to investigate.
After the police talked to the people who said they witnessed the incident and reviewed the situation, they located the woman on the property. She was taken into custody and booked into the Osceola County Jail. She is facing a preliminary charge of aggravated child abuse. At the time this was written, she was still being held without bail.
