35-Year-Old Burned Elderly Girlfriend with Scalding Soup

A 35-year-old Texas man with a history of family violence is facing several charges after allegedly severely injuring his elderly girlfriend by pouring burning hot soup on her because he believed she was talking too much.

According to reports, on April 3, the authorities were notified by a 65-year-old woman when she stopped by the local police station on her way to an appointment at the Social Security office. She explained that she wanted to contact them sooner, but she lacked a phone and vehicle, so she was forced to wait. The woman reported in a written statement that she and her 35-year-old boyfriend, who had been dating for approximately a year, share a residence. The man allegedly physically attacked her by choking her at times, and on February 28, she obtained third-degree burns from an incident between them.

The woman told the police that she was heating up soup in the microwave when the couple was in the middle of a verbal disagreement. The man reportedly told his girlfriend she was talking too much. She got her soup out of the microwave, and her beau allegedly purposely shoved it, causing the scalding liquid to spill on her and burn her arm and shoulder.

It was reported that the suspect, who has two prior family violence assault convictions from 2017 and 2021, was taken into custody and booked into the McLennan County Jail. He is facing multiple preliminary charges including injury to the elderly (intentional, knowingly, or recklessly), assault with bodily injury with a previous conviction, continuous violence against family, terroristic threat of family or household member, and resisting arrest. Facility records show that he is being held in lieu of a $130,000 bond.
