34-year-old Mallory Giles lives in Huron, Ohio. She is employed as a home health aide in Erie County.
According to reports, a 93-year-old man who lives in a condominium in Sandusky was under Giles’ care.
It was reported by the client’s daughter that Giles was given a credit card so that she could pay for his essentials.
His daughter reported that she was checking Giles’s credit card statements when she noticed several purchases that she became suspicious of. The woman did not believe her dad made or authorized the transactions, so she notified the authorities.
The Sandusky Police Department opened an investigation into the claims of theft. When they began to look at the purchases, the investigators asserted that Giles was using the credit card for her own shopping and without permission.
The authorities believe that Giles bought clothes, shoes, furniture, décor, outside lawn care items, and other assorted goods. They estimated that the total amount of the purchases was over $50,000.
It was reported that while the police were investigating the situation, the alleged victim was taken to the hospital. The man had suffered from an opioid-induced drug overdose. He was given Narcan to revive him.
Since the alleged victim is not prescribed any medication in the opioid class, the authorities accused Giles of poisoning the man with the substance.
On June 23, Giles talked to the police in an on-camera interview. When the woman spoke about the situation, she told the officer, “I don’t know why I did it.” She additionally told them that she gave him the drugs so he would remain sedated and wouldn’t look at his credit card statements.
Giles was taken into custody and booked into the Erie County Jail. She is expected to face charges of attempted murder, and theft from a protected class due to the age of the alleged victim.
She is being held in lieu of a $560,000 bond.
