Two women who work at a California daycare center allegedly fractured the skull of a child they were taking care of and reportedly did not let the parents know about the injury.
29-year-old Megan Maldonado resides in San Bernardino, and Felicia Ann Ferra, 50, lives in Yorba Linda. Both women are employees who provide daycare to the children enrolled at a Rancho Cucamonga Kiddie Academy Educational Childcare.
Last September, the authorities opened an investigation after the Loma Linda University Medical Center Pediatric Intensive Care Unit informed them about an eight-month-old boy’s injuries. The police were told that the infant’s skull was fractured, and it was believed that the injury might have come from abuse.
When they looked into the situation surrounding the child’s skull fracture, the authorities reportedly felt that there might be some connection to the childcare center. They also learned that Maldonado and Ferra had been caring for the youngster.
Upon further investigation, it was reported that the injury was believed to have occurred when the infant was at Kiddie Academy and that Maldonado and Ferra caused it. They additionally reported that the women allegedly purposely failed to tell the child’s parents about the injury.
The authorities believed they had enough evidence to warrant arresting both women for allegedly harming the baby.
Maldonado was placed under arrest for the allegations, and she was booked into the San Bernardino Central Detention Center on a $100,000 bond. She is facing charges of conspiracy and child abuse, and she was later released from custody.
Ferra turned herself in at the West Valley Detention Center after the authorities obtained a warrant. She is facing the same charges as Maldonado.
It was reported that the Rancho Cucamonga location of Kiddie Academy is privately owned and operated.
