On the evening of June 4, a family in Vancouver, Washington, ordered approximately $100 worth of food using the DoorDash app. When the delivery driver dropped off the food, the recipients did not choose to give him a tip. He initially left without incident, but according to reports, he returned the following morning to attempt to collect the gratuity.
The man who lives at the residence reported that his 19-year-old daughter answered the door, and it caught his attention when he heard someone getting aggressive towards her. He saw that it was the DoorDasher from the previous night, and the driver reportedly lifted his shirt to show he had a gun in a holster around his waist. The resident was able to wrestle the gun away when the pair were involved in a scuffle in the driveway before the man drove away.
The authorities were notified first by the homeowner, who reported that the man, whom he presumed was peeved because he was not given a tip, came to his door and took out a firearm. He said he was able to take it away from the driver. Approximately five minutes later, the alleged suspect also called the police and reported that he was physically assaulted by a man when he went to collect a tip that he believed he earned the night before. Law enforcement with the Vancouver Police Department began investigating the situation.
When talking to the suspect, he told the police that he only lifted his shirt to show the man at the door that he had a gun on him. According to the police report, he said the man pushed him onto the ground, and an injury was seen on his ankle. It was asserted that the man, who reportedly had a BAC of .185, was deemed the aggressor in the incident. He was taken into custody and booked into the Clark County Jail on preliminary charges of assault, harassment, and driving under the influence (second offense). Facility records indicate he is no longer behind bars.
