A Florida septuagenarian accused of driving a golf cart to a local bank while under the influence of alcohol had her driver’s license suspended as a part of her ordered probation.
70-year-old Janis Withrow Kampka lives in the Glenbrook neighborhood in The Villages.
In the afternoon on July 23, Kampka allegedly drove a golf cart to Citizens First Bank at Southern Trace Plaza.
Someone at the location became concerned, and they notified the authorities about suspicious activity taking place outside the bank.
The Sumter County Sheriff’s Office sent a deputy to the location to investigate.
When the law enforcement officer arrived, it was reported that Kampka was still in the golf cart with the keys in the ignition.
The deputy approached Kampka, and when they assessed her condition, it was believed that she was intoxicated.
Kampka cooperated with roadside sobriety testing, but she reportedly did not perform up to par. It was noted that she was unable to balance herself while standing. When she was given a breathalyzer test, it registered .149 and .153 BAC.
Kampka was booked into the Sumter County Detention Center on a $1000 bond. She was charged with DUI and later released.
When Kampka went to court for the charge last week, it was reported that she entered a plea of no contest.
Kampka was given a one-year probation sentence. She has been ordered to complete 50 hours of community service within that period. She additionally had her driver’s license suspended for a period of six months.
This is not the first time the woman has been charged with a DUI while using a golf cart.
