DUI Arrest Led to Macon County Deputy Resignation

A Macon County Sheriff’s deputy who had been with the department for nearly two years reportedly resigned earlier this month following an investigation tied to a traffic stop that led to a DUI arrest late last year.

According to the Macon County Sheriff’s Office, the deputy had been employed for less than two years at the time of the incident. He was placed on paid administrative leave shortly after the events that led to criminal and traffic charges and remained off duty while the matter was reviewed.

It was reported that the incident occurred around 2:00 a.m. on December 15, 2025, in the Forsyth area. A deputy on patrol allegedly observed a vehicle that appeared to be speeding on U.S. Route 51. Due to snow and ice-covered roads, the deputy reportedly chose not to immediately pursue the vehicle but continued driving in the same direction.

A short time later, the vehicle was allegedly found driving in the center median. When a traffic stop was attempted, the vehicle reportedly did not stop and instead began traveling in the opposite direction. The vehicle allegedly slid into the median more than once before continuing to flee. Deputies reportedly avoided a high-speed pursuit due to road conditions and because the vehicle had already been identified.

Other deputies later located the vehicle, which was stuck in a ditch west of U.S. Route 51. The driver was taken into custody on suspicion of speeding, fleeing or attempting to elude law enforcement, and driving under the influence. Because the driver was a deputy with the sheriff’s office, the Illinois State Police handled the DUI investigation.

It was reported that he resigned from his job on February 2.
