An executive for the Boy Scouts was placed under arrest when he was allegedly found intoxicated and surrounded by empty bottles of alcohol in his vehicle while wearing his official uniform.
39-year-old John Burke resides in Deltona, Florida. He is a senior district executive for the Boy Scouts of America, Central Florida Council.
Around 11:00 PM on March 7, Burke was reportedly parked on a dead-end street and sitting inside of his car. It was reported that the man was wearing his Boy Scout uniform.
Someone notified the Volusia County Sheriff’s Office about a man sitting in a vehicle, and deputies went to the location to see what was going on.
It was noted in the police report that there were “keys in the ignition” of the car, and Burke was in the driver’s seat.
When they peered inside the window, the deputies noted that many empty bottles of alcohol were scattered around the vehicle.
Burke reportedly gave a statement to the deputies. It was reported that he informed them that he was struggling because he and his wife were having problems in their relationship, so he took a drive.
The officers requested that Burke get out of the car and take roadside sobriety tests. When he performed the exercises, it was reported that he did not perform up to par. The man, who allegedly smelled like alcohol, was reportedly unsteady on his feet while trying to do each task.
When his breath was tested, the machine reportedly gave readings of .287 and .283 BAC.
Burke was taken into custody and booked into the Volusia County Jail. He is expected to face charges of DUI and open container. Burke was incarcerated in lieu of a $1000 bond.
