A man wearing a Comcast employee uniform was arrested after he was accused of trying to break into a home in Northern California.
Early in the afternoon on July 4, the resident of a home in the Bret Harte neighborhood of San Rafael reportedly noticed a suspicious person at their front door when they looked at the app for their Ring doorbell camera.
The resident was not at home at the time. When they notified the authorities, it was reported that they said the person on their property was wearing a Comcast Cable Company uniform. They added that they believed the man was trying to get inside the house.
It also appeared as if a Comcast vehicle was parked outside the home, but the resident reported that they did not have an appointment scheduled with anyone from the company on that day.
Deputies with the Maron County Sheriff’s Office were sent to the address.
When they arrived at the home, the deputies reported that a ladder was holding the garage door open.
As they approached the garage, a man bolted out and got into the Comcast van parked nearby, and drove off in a purported attempt to escape from the authorities.
The deputies chased the man for a short distance. The van the suspect was driving became entangled in thick brush on the side of the road, and the man ditched the vehicle to try to get away on foot.
The police caught and identified him as 30-year-old Tyler Christopher Ramirez from San Francisco.
Ramirez was taken into custody and booked into the Marin County Jail. He is expected to face charges of burglary, possession of stolen property, vehicle theft, and evading arrest, all felonies. According to jail records, Ramirez is still incarcerated on bond.
